What Guys End Up Talking About During a 3 Day Backpacking Trip

Cone Peak, Big Sur (CA)

This past weekend, I spent a few days with my buddies Joseph and Ryan down in Big Sur—Cone Peak to be exact. I summited Cone Peak in 2014 once with two of my other buddies, but I wanted to go back and show these guys this part of the park.

We hiked in five miles to our site on Friday, hiked 14 miles to/from Cone Peak on Saturday, then hiked out five miles on Sunday. Covering 24 miles and having a couple of campfire sessions, we had a lot of time on our hands for conversations.

One of my favorite things I love about these unplugged trips is the random conversations we have. The long hikes in/out of camp, sitting around a campfire at night sipping Bulleit, or while prepping meals on the MSR… conversations in the outdoors always seem to go from nowhere to somewhere back to nowhere.

In no particular order (and PG Rated), here are just a few things we talked about during our time unplugged.

Oh, and some photos of the trip…

As a Design Strategist and Creative Facilitator, I focus on social innovation, human-centered design, and purpose-driven initiatives that create positive change in the world. I love finding ways for organizations to make a huge impact in unexpected places. Working with others who are working towards creating positive change, I use design as my tool to help them do this in a better way. In a playful workshop environment, I help Fortune 500 companies to startups, non-profits to universities, come up with fun, achievable, and innovative solutions to challenges. My prefer method is making. With a background in both web and graphic design, I bring ideas to life so others can see what’s possible.
